The Fresno Philharmonic and the Fresno State Department of Music present Proxima, a FREE concert of new music performed by musicians of the Fresno Philharmonic and Music Director Rei Hotoda. This concert will take place on February 20, 2019 at 7:30pm in the Ellipse Gallery of the Henry Madden Library at Fresno State. The program will include works by Kenneth Froelich, Jack Fortner, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Andrea Clearfield, Danielle Fisher, Mason Lamb (Winner of Student competition), Vera Ivanova, and Zachary Wadsworth. Fresno Philharmonic Announces 2018-2019 Season Programming
Today, the Fresno Philharmonic and Music Director Rei Hotoda announced the orchestra’s 2018-2019 season which highlights the power of musical narratives to speak across history, geography and cultures to bring a wide range of stories to life. A centerpiece of the season will be the Fresno-premiere performance of Benjamin Britten’s dramatic War Requiem on Veterans Day, which falls on the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I. Based on texts from the traditional Latin mass for the dead and the poetry of English soldier Wilfred Owen, who died in the trenches of World War I, this searing work for huge orchestral and choral forces has become a landmark of 20th century music.
