Brahms and Tabla

Indian tabla master Sandeep Das makes his Fresno Philharmonic debut to perform Dinuk Wijeratne’s colorful and energetic Tabla Concerto, a fusion of global musical traditions. Debussy’s popular Clair de lune and Brahms’ dramatic Symphony No. 1 round out this demonstration of the range and versatility of today’s Fresno Philharmonic. Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff

The Fresno Philharmonic presents the world premiere of a new work - Meguru: Dreams of Harvest - by California composers Hitomi Oba and Erika Oba inspired by the life and writings of Fresno author and organic peach farmer David “Mas” Masumoto. This performance is the culmination of a two-year project called Cultural Crossroads: Kisetsu (“Seasons” in Japanese). Pianist Barry Douglas returns to the Fresno Philharmonic for Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 2.  The concert concludes with Shostakovich’s light-hearted Symphony No. 9. Bernstein and Barber

In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we welcome back the phenomenal soprano Karen Slack to perform Barber's lyrical and nostalgic Knoxville: Summer of 1915.  The concert opens with Adolphus Hailstork's Fanfare on Amazing Grace, and continues with Walker's Lyric for Strings. Orchestral Virtuosity

This program celebrates the incredible virtuosity of the Fresno Philharmonic’s musicians.
