Three Chamber Works & A Symphony This very special program of chamber works and a symphony spotlights principal players of the Fresno Philharmonic. A brass quintet begins by performing Anthony Di Lorenzo's Fire Dance. A wind quintet follows with Barber's fluttering Summer Music, Op. 31, and the first half concludes with Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96. Rei Hotoda leads a chamber orchestra in the program's second half with Schumann's Symphony No. 2 in C Major, Op. 61. Presented in a single Sunday afternoon performance, this is an event for chamber music and symphony lovers alike! The Fresno Philharmonic is funded in part by the City of Fresno Measure P Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Fund administered by the Fresno Arts Council. …

Osorio Plays Brahms

May 13, 2025

Join the Fresno Philharmonic for a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, featuring a deeply personal new piece by composer Juan Pablo Contreras. Alma Monarca invites audiences into Contreras’s childhood memories of Día de los Muertos and the awe-inspiring Monarch butterfly migration to the Mexican state of Michoacán. Framing this moving work are the lilting and spirited Estancia: Four Dances by Ginastera and Brahms’s titanic Piano Concerto No. 1, performed with passion by acclaimed Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio. The Fresno Philharmonic is funded in part by the City of Fresno Measure P Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Fund administered by the Fresno Arts Council. …

Ravel, Beethoven & Sibelius

Pianist Jon Kimura Parker joins the orchestra as soloist. The program also features Ravel’s elegant Le Tombeau de Couperin, written in honor of fallen friends, and Sibelius’s majestic and structure-bending Symphony No. 5. Tchaikovsky’s Fifth

May 13, 2025

We close the season with a program that explores where we come from and who we are. Damien Geter’s Sinfonia Americana sets the tone with rich, pastoral sounds that evoke the American landscape, while Kevin Puts’s lyrical Flute Concerto displays the soaring skill of flutist Demarre McGill. Our journey ends with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a powerful portrait of personal triumph and rediscovery. The Fresno Philharmonic is funded in part by the City of Fresno Measure P Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Fund administered by the Fresno Arts Council. …
