Three Chamber Works & A Symphony This very special program of chamber works and a symphony spotlights principal players of the Fresno Philharmonic. A brass quintet begins by performing Anthony Di Lorenzo's Fire Dance. A wind quintet follows with Barber's fluttering Summer Music, Op. 31, and the first half concludes with Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96. Rei Hotoda leads a chamber orchestra in the program's second half with Schumann's Symphony No. 2 in C Major, Op. 61. Alma Monarca invites audiences into Contreras’s childhood memories of Día de los Muertos and the awe-inspiring Monarch butterfly migration to the Mexican state of Michoacán. Framing this moving work are the lilting and spirited Estancia: Four Dances by Ginastera and Brahms’s titanic Piano Concerto No. 1, performed with passion by acclaimed Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio.
